About Your Designer

I have over 20 years experience in design and illustration. I attended the Cleveland Institute of Art and graduated with a BFA. I began my professional career at an alternative newsweekly in Cleveland and have diversified into many other facets of design since then. I've created logos and identity packages, posters, billboards, web sites, social media campaigns, packaging, museum display graphics, publication covers and layouts, promotional materials of all kinds, and much more. What My Clients and Colleagues Have to Say

“Mary is a truly talented and hard-working professional, very easy to talk to and get along with. She's a wonderful artist and graphic designer, and crucially, has a great sense of humor that makes her a lot of fun to be around. And she gets the job DONE. I've worked with quite a few art directors; Mary was at the top of the list.” —Eric Broder, former colleague at The Cleveland Free Times.

“Mary is a delight to work with. She's smart, funny, and knows how to get stuff done. Her eye is terrific, but it's not all about purity of artistic expression—her practical mind guides every project she touches so everything lands on time and on budget.” —Rob Lightner, Associate Creative Director at Wire Stone

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Mary since she was a student at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Even then, she was a very gifted illustrator. Mary is also an exceptional graphic designer. She has flourished in the very competitive field of news publication. I look forward to collaborating with Mary, as she brings great talent and enthusiasm to every project!” —Linda Tokarczyk, Freelance Designer and Art Director

“If I had to assemble a team of bad-ass individuals to take on some unknown challenge, Mary would be on my shortlist. Whether we ended up having to solve a riddle, create a website, or fight back-to-back with sonic great-swords on the edge of a black hole against wave after wave of some kind of metallic space bugs, I know Mary would be an able and unflappable ally. She’s a creative problem-solver, a generous collaborator, a tireless worker, a kind communicator, and a constant and conscientious improver of everything she touches. (Let’s get those space bugs, Mary!)” —Paul Hughes, Writer

“Mary Traverse worked with me on packaging for the hit card game Magic: The Gathering. The entire time I was lucky enough to collaborate with Mary, she was dedicated, creative, and an absolute pleasure to be around. She consistently delivered beyond expectations and presented her work with a professionalism that I admired and envied. We worked in an often grueling environment with ambitious timelines. I've seen other good designers burn out, but Mary took all of it in stride and made it look easy. Anyone would be lucky to work with her and I'm just sorry that I won't be able to do so everyday.” —Jeff Carpenter, Graphic Designer & Illustrator
